Archive: Mindwrap Releases Optix® Version 6 for Mac OS X

New release continues Mindwrap’s unique 14-year cross-platform commitment to open systems document management, imaging, and workflow.

Mindwrap announced the release of version 6 of their Optix Workstation for Macintosh with native support for Macintosh OS X. The new release joins Mindwrap’s Optix 6 Workstation for Windows in the family of Optix Document Management and Workflow System products. Mindwrap will be showing its new Mac OS X solution in booth #1446 at the MacWorld Conference and Expo, Jan 7-10 at the Moscone Center in San Francisco.

The new Macintosh OS X client supports high-speed, high resolution, dual-sided document scanners such as the new Fujitsu fi-4860, with speeds as fast as 73 letter-size pages or 146 sides per minute at 200 dpi black and white, grayscale, or color. The workstation also fully supports image enhancement, form design and processing, barcode recognition, patch cards, and a full set of interactive tools for designing GUI-based indexing and query screens as well as complex workflow routes. The client transparently communicates with the server-based Optix software that securely manages and routes documents using industry standard relational databases such as Oracle, Sybase, Informix, and SQL Server. In addition to images, the client can store and index any document or file found on the desktop. The Optix Mac client is fully scriptable using AppleScript, allowing users to easily customize its operation and integrate it with third party applications such as OCR.

According to Craig Landrum, Mindwrap’s CTO, “Most document management vendors ignore the Mac or claim that their ‘web client’ covers the platform. Nonsense. For real imaging work, real productivity, and certainly for real scanning, you need the capabilities that can only be found in a native implementation such as ours. With our new Mac OS X release, we are continuing our 14-year commitment to the Macintosh and our belief that high productivity is easiest to achieve in a harmonious environment deploying diverse platforms”.

Delivered as a fully functional and highly integrated solution, Optix is typically much faster to deploy than complicated “toolkits” that require extensive and costly development. Installation and training times are usually measured in days instead of months. Optix empowers system administrators and end users with a rich set of easy-to-use tools to quickly create and deploy new, secure applications. Optional modules support web-based query, viewing, and workflow operations.
